This is James Buckhouse, a marketing chap at Twitter. This shot was taken during our bi-monthly intranet office shoots and I figured I'd share the info with folks since it's quite a common setup.

228/365. This is my business tielet's talk

More than a few things....

As most of you know from earlier, a photo of mine was recently mis-used as it appeared in a full-spread two-page featured article in Voyeur Magazine, a Text Pacific publication for Virgin Blue.... okay.

Now it's time to talk a little business, and clear out some details. Trash talking and name-calling may perhaps be a little out of line. But let's just clear up a few things before the blame is put on Virgin, Getty, or Text Pacific Publishing.

Text Pacific Publishing has noted that they credit each photograph in the opening spread (as per an anonymous Flickr account comment) and "royalty-free images from Getty are credited as 'Getty Images'"

This, technically, was done. The only things in question that remain are...

1) The credits remain questionable. If Text Pacfic goes out of their way to credit photographers (Ebony Harrison & Robert Zappulla), why not credit the others, since afterall, it's quite clear who took the photo when purchasing?

But ok. That's fine, actually. T.P. is not under obligation to offer a proper credit. I would however, nonetheless, change the way they do credits since it does in fact appear that someone else is getting credit (just a minor UI change)

Which brings to a second point.

2) Getty. Where is their role? If the photo was in fact purchased, when do I see proceeds? Afterall, it's a little weird that there would be any time-lapse between someone purchasing a photo, and me just "finding it on the internet". Even my bank will post transactions within the hour.

3) To answer a few responses from this awesome Flickr army.

a) "You shouldn't be posting high resolution photos to the web"

I am a firm believer that this is not how things are fixed. To take this further, I will continue to keep my photos "un-watermarked". The occasional text that appears on my photos is for "art sake", not as a theft-preventative measure.

And lastly on this matter, my photos are meant to be viewed large. They have detail — detail that shouldn't be bound to a 500 x 500 pixel box.

b) "Did you really buy that tie today?"

Yep.

And of course, the real reason this all started....

146/365. Everybody's doin' the fish... yeah, yeah, yeah! ~ Reel Big Fish
(Rock out back stage)

Imagine yourself at this concert... which by the way, I saw these guys live a few times, once in particular about 10 years ago and I got in a wrestling match with a 350 pound dude over a drum stick that was thrown into the crowd.... I won.

Anyhow, this is another special edition photo with an accompanying "strobist info video" since it was so well received last time. It is truly a challenge jamming in all that info into 90 seconds when there is so much to talk about!

So this leaves everyone here with only one thing left to do — check out the setup, camera, & strobist info video. Cheers

120/365. Are you trying to say I don't know how to play?

I've had this trumpet sitting in my closet for 12 years, I'm pretty sure I still know how to play it... or at least hold it correctly.... is this right? Hehe. Thanks to Erin, I almost gave this up to good will, but she said it would make a fun prop. She was right.

One more thing, this is my first photo from our new studio setup. It's totally awesome. Erin made the big investment :)

Nevertheless, here's that 'ol setup stroby diagramer. cheers!

114/365. Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? ~ Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody)

Well, it doesn't get any more official than being on TechCrunch. At least it is featuring a photo taken by me. It's like I get to do my own promo shots avoiding the press altogether.

Anyhow, I know what you're actually thinking... we've had enough of the nighttime strobist bokeh. This may have run to an end for the interim; but good news is that I have a week vacation! Look forward to some "possible" --NATURAL LIGHT-- (and that's a tiny possible 'maybe'). On the other hand, Erin just had the roll of seemless (photo backdrop) shipped in, so I'm sure we'll be taking advantage of that for some (actual) studio portraiture. This will help save a few trips out into the wild for a bit.

Lastly, I need to give Angela and Lindsey some credit for helping out with the lighting and shutter-pressing for this photo.

Taking a small break from the usual 365's, here's some portraits using our new lighting rig.

Technically speaking, Erin *was* in this picture all of but 2 seconds before the shutter went off. She leaned over to adjust something and I decided to go with this goofy face. You can see part of her elbow in the shot (near the logo watermark). In the end it turned out pretty fun.

This is part of a set of where we spent more time experimenting with our lighting rig. It's quite addicting and fun!
