173/365. We read to know we are not alone ~ CS Lewis
learn to read

Every day it seems like I'm bone dry and fresh out of ideas... this one walks that line. Afterall; me, sitting, on a bench... lights, tilt, bokeh... yeah, I don't care — my mind hurts after writing code for most of the day (and evening).

In the end, this shot still came out well. Didn't get hassled by any "Crazy Mikes" — but instead a guy with much enthusiastic interest in what I was doing. Talking photography is usually more fun when I'm not half falling asleep and wanting to be done... so in this case it was more annoying. Explaining how pocket wizards work is not something you want to be doing while an umbrella can go down at any minute.

Anyway, enough of me complaining (I'm falling asleep).

98/365. A Happy Place ~ for Cheryl & Scott

I think tonight I've finally pushed my limits for a while in regards to taking out the stubby with a portable strobist setup in-a-bag. It took near 45 minutes to complete the entire thing, from buying a newspaper (80 cents), to travel (BART - $1.50), scouting an area (this trolly stop), and having a homeless teenager snap the photo ($3).

In the end it was worth it. Hope everyone had a great Wednesday. Techy dorks read on:

68/365.
The important decisions in photography are those concerned with the image itself: the reasons for taking it, and the way it looks. The Technology, of course, is vital, but the best it can do is to help realize ideas and perception. ~ Michael Freeman

This is one of the first actual books I bought on photography, I've had it over a year. I really don't have many. And some I haven't turned a page. This one, however, was the first I read all the way through because it talks about the art of taking good photographs leaving out the technical garbage that comes with every other one. It's actually a breath of fresh air when not reading about new gadgets every other week.

Anyhow, today was Monday, it was slow, but the coffee was good.

strobist info: Nikon SB900 thru 43" silver umbrella @ 1/128 power on 20mm head with the standard boring 45° camera left. In the back hitting the wall was a SB600 @ 1/64 shooting thru a "dark bastard amber" #03 gel (yes, that really is the name of it) onto a wine bar with tons of glasses (hence that sweet bokeh)

camera info: Nikon D700 | 50mm(ƒ/1.4G) | ƒ/1.4 | ISO 200 | 1/200s | WB 6570 k° SOOC (minus border and title)
