256/365. Downtown woman — better catch a cab

Today I had the privledge of being featured by Yahoo! as an avid Flickr user. In the next couple days or so (not really sure when), that'll show up on the Y! Corp Blog :)

Regarding this shot (and the other two that follow it) were taken somewhere near Market, Mission, and 1st.

The whole experience was interesting seeing as how Erin and I are both photographers, and we were being shot & filmed. It's one thing if I'm behind my own camera (or Erin's) and vice versa for Erin... but it was a bit crazy coming up with interview answers while being filmed (Erin snapped one off of that happening) and being waken up before 10am on a Sunday.

ANYWAY, this happened because of you all, the awesome Flickr community....

which brings us to a final point why most end up on my photo stream... yep, just admit you're a strobist setup junky ;)

255/365. This is 1994 — remember?

Dunno what happened to yesterday, but we're back on track today.

Tonight Erin and I did a shoot for San Francisco Magazine. Had a couple good ones... but none that I could technically post here since I'm sending those to the editor.

I picked this one out since it was outside the context of what they were looking for.

Many folks were dressed up in their best 90's outfits, including this woman. They even passed out slap-on wrist bracelets, how awesome is that? You know you remember those too.

Anyhow, I wasn't able to snap a setup shot. I suppose I could have if I tried a little harder... but somehow I think since it was a paid gig, "getting the setup shot" sorta went out the door. In the meantime, this louzy text will have to suffice...

253/365. Passion — got some?

Yeah, this is a sign of a mid-week photo where I go off experimenting again... but this is what I intended the project to mostly be anyhow :)

I plopped on a snoot that was meant for a studio strobe right on top of the SB-900... it did the job.

On the news front, Erin and I will be doing a shoot for San Francisco Magazine for a story that will be covering night life. If anyone's checked out the print version, it's filled with a lot of beautiful photography — thus it will be an honor to shoot for them!

Next up I'm going to be featured by Yahoo! in regards to Flickr! How cool is that?! I better get a haircut before Sunday :/

This is Teresa, a friend of Erin's. Had a long family weekend... I have half the will to explain it and I understand I'm back by a few days. Live will go on. Baah.

On a astrisks note, I will no longer be posting to the strobist info group as per new rules which require text additions. In the meantime, I will continue to post fully documented photo setups....

This is Matisyahu. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't.

He is one of the few people I've seen live that can beatbox as well as I can... had only there been an extra mic, we could have jammed.

Alright. Time to pick up the camera again and get back to real life.

242/365. This is Tina — visit the train station yourself

Todays photo features a "twopher" (yeah, that means two for one... or something like that). Be sure to view the subsequent photo.

Erin and I (or I should say Flash Bullet) had the opportunity to work with Tina, a model from the Bay Area via a new contact of ours, Phu Nguyen, who provided the dress, and his wife did the makeup.

This photo was taken in front of the Trolly stop at Market & Powell, San Francisco inbetween trollys coming and going (and as you can see, one is coming right behind Tina).

It's shots like these where everything clicks. This includes Erin, the BART station, the D3, the 85mm, and a few margaritas... and of course being in lurve.

Everyone... if you didn't know him, this is Jason @Goldman. He's kind of a somebody at Twitter who does things. He didn't know I'd be posting this one to my 365 project, but surely, this attention won't bother 'em.

It's posts like these that I don't really enjoy, but things must be said again.

Somehow, my work has been awkwardly placed at the center of attention of which became yet another heated debate amongst the strobist community. I normally ignore these, but since my name was attached to it (sigh), I have to say something :/

I received a very kind, unobtrusive message from a moderator letting me know that my photos would no longer be accepted to the strobist pool due to new rules.

This is fine.

Groups grow, rules change, exceptions shouldn't be made for one person.

(side note: i can't believe i'm actually talking about this, my eyes are rolling as i'm typing this)

The fact of the matter is, I'm not going to change my format. I hold the right for my stream to keep photos as photos, and setup shots as setup shots. This way it's easier to discuss each 'separately' — and clearly, it's been working for me, and more importntly, for you. It was my strobist info setup shots that landed me the strobist interview to begin with.

Regarding "'text info' only" posts, I often get confused even reading my own — which is why I started these setup images to begin with because it helped 'me' refer to what the hell I've been doing the whole time.

So, for the end of this story, I'll keep doin' what I'm doin', you just won't find 'em in the massive group pool. And thass cool (really).
